Where are you located?
I am conveniently close to Broad Street and Route 64 in the Near West End of Richmond. My address is:
7204 Glen Forest Drive Suite 110Henrico, Virginia 23226
How much is a session?
For therapy sessions, my fees are $200 for a 50-minute individual, couples, or family session.
For first time clients, however, I offer a one-time, prepaid package of six sessions for $1050, at a discounted rate of $175 per session hour. Ongoing six-session packages can be purchased for $1110, or $185 a session. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PREPAID PACKAGES ARE NOT REFUNDABLE, ALTHOUGH THERE IS NO TIME LIMIT WHEN THEY CAN BE USED.
Our initial intake meeting is a double-session (1 hour 40 minutes), which allows enough time to thoroughly hear your story in a relaxed manner. By the time clients make it to session, I find that they are often “emotionally full” and the extra time is well appreciated.
For mental health evaluations for immigration cases, the fee is typically $1500, although the price may increase depending on the type of evaluation and how urgently it is needed. The cost includes the extended interview time needed to meet with clients, assess them, and write the detailed report for the court. In addition, all case management to lawyers and adjunct professionals is included in this fee. A consultation phone call with me can give you the definitive fee.
What forms of payment do you accept?
I accept cash, check, Mastercard, Visa, and Zelle.
Do you take insurance?
I am not an in-network provider with any insurance company plans.
However, since most therapeutic services are reimbursable depending on your insurance coverage, I encourage you to contact your insurance company and ask specifically what your “out-of-network mental health benefit” is to help you make an informed decision about working with me.
Upon request, and if needed, I do provide clients with a detailed statement of receipt that can be submitted to all insurance companies. This same statement can be used for FSA and HSA employment benefits or any other type of reimbursable program.
I work during the day. Do you have flexible hours?
My hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 8am to 7pm. All sessions start on the hour.
I will do my utmost to accommodate your needs.
How frequent are counselling sessions?
I prefer clients to commit to weekly sessions for the first six to eight sessions. I find that clients report better outcomes on this schedule.
Sessions can be spaced out to once every two weeks after this initial phase.
What is your cancellation policy?
I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. I know life gets in the way (for example, you wake up sick on the day of session) and will usually grant a one-time courtesy waiver.
What should I expect for my first appointment?
The initial session is my opportunity to get to know you. I will invite you to share openly what’s going on in your life – what’s bringing you to therapy.
If you come with your partner, each will be invited to share his or her perspective. I will mostly listen, take some notes, and ask follow-up questions so that I can get a clear idea of your life and how you are managing it.
You won’t be criticized, interrupted, or judged as you speak. Your conversation will be kept in the strictest of confidence. This is a special, unique type of conversation in which you can say exactly what you feel – total honesty – and you will be mirrored total acceptance. Anything you want – or need – to say is OK.
Clients find that as they then learn to accept themselves, change can occur. At the end of session, I may suggest that you practice a specific communication strategy or complete a task before the next session. Nothing is mandatory… just suggested.
How do you do therapy?
I believe in a person’s innate ability to heal and transform. However, there is no one approach that fits everyone. As such, I draw from a number of theories and modalities.
As a Trauma-Informed therapist, I use strengths-based approaches, including Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Transpersonal Psychology, Gestalt Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), expressive arts modalities, Depth Psychology, and mindfulness techniques.
With couples, I draw heavily on the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy.
What if you and I are not a good fit?
Therapy is a highly personal experience, and your fit with the right therapist is imperative for you to feel the level of comfort needed to make the desired changes in your life.
I understand this. You are not going to hurt my feelings if you don’t feel we are a match. This is your time, your money, and your mental health. If this is indeed how you feel, tell me. I will do what I can to help you find one that better suits you and your needs.
Am I expected to lie down on your couch?
Ha-ha! Most clients sit on my couch, although some find lying down on it relaxes them while in session. You are welcome to do whatever feels best to you. I can attest to its comfort; I have taken a few naps on it myself!
